Orlando

Orlando isn’t named “The City Beautiful” for nothing. As soon as you hit the outskirts, you’ll know why. The roads are architecturally elegant and well landscaped highways, From Lake Eola, to International Drive, our parks, convention center, and even Orlando International Airport, referred to locally as just MCO, you’ll find a lot of the same. Lush landscaping, plenty of water views, and, of course, palm trees galore!

MCO, huh? Why not OIA? The airport was named after Colonel Michael Norman Wright McCoy (1905–1957) from 1951 to 1975. Col McCoy was killed in a B-47 crash in 1957.. The airport was a front line Strategic Air Command Base during that time.

In 1975 the US government sold the property to the City of Orlando for $1.00. it was renamed Orlando International, and kept the original MCO identifier. Today, it is one of the top ten busiest airports in the US. And one of the nicest.
